Prior to joining the Stars, Heika covered the team on a full-time basis since 1994 for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and The Dallas Morning News. He also covered the move of the team in 1993 by traveling to Minnesota for the final month of the 1993-94 season.
"I've been there pretty much every step of the way with this team in Dallas, and this is a great opportunity to continue to bring the story of the Stars to the fans, but in a different venue," Heika said. "With the resources of the team's digital content group, the ability to expand insight into the players, coaches, front office and support staff should be limitless. I've always seen a season as a sort of serial television show, and this will create an environment where we really can create compelling `episodes' on a daily basis."
Heika is a 1983 graduate of Central Michigan University and started his career at The Grapevine Sun. He moved to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in 1988, where he covered high schools, colleges and eventually the Stars. He was hired by The Dallas Morning News in 1999 to cover the Stars and the NHL and has worked there since.
